Washington Scholarship

Each year, two scholarships, the Washington Scholarship and the Emma Bailey Scholarship, are available to graduating high school seniors who are continuing their education and are living in the Town of Washington. Information regarding the Emma Bailey Scholarship can be found elsewhere on this website.

The Washington Scholarship began in 1971. At that time, the Washington Elementary School’s PTA disbanded, and its members decided to use funds they had raised for school programs as seed money for future scholarships. Today, the Washington Scholarship is supported by bake sales held every other year at our Town Hall during November voting in national and state elections. The many contributions of baked goods from a large number of community members are testament to the collaborative spirit of our small town, and the scholarship committee is pleased to be able to show support for Washington students. This year, 2024, represents the 53rd year of the Washington Scholarships.

Washington Scholarships are awarded to seniors who successfully complete their first post-high school semester and plan to continue with their educational career. High school seniors applying for this scholarship submit their applications in the spring of their senior year, and awards are announced at graduation. The application is available for download below, due by May 1. Any questions should be directed to scholarship committee member Linda Levernoch.
