Annual Town Census

Massachusetts General Laws require that cities and towns conduct an annual census of its residents each year. The local census is used to maintain voting and jury lists as well as aid in school enrollment projections, public safety, and senior citizens’ needs and for certain privileges such as veterans’ benefits and proof of residency for state colleges and universities. The census information does NOT register anyone to vote, but failure to respond to the census may result in a voter’s name being removed from the voter’s list.

In addition, emergency personnel, as well as other municipal departments, use the Street List that is generated from the annual town census to an aid in the daily performance of their duties.

The Town Clerk’s Office mails the Annual Town Census between January and February of each year. If you just moved to town or you lost your form, a blank form can be filled out and mailed to: Town of Washington, Town Clerk's Office, 8 Summit Hill Road, Washington, MA 01223.

Please feel free to call the Town Clerk’s Office at 413-623-8878 x105 or email if you have any questions.
