Transfer Station

Our goal/duty at the Washington Transfer Station is to make sure that your trash finds its way to the appropriate containers. Please familiarize yourself with the State regulations as well as our Town’s procedures.

Washington is one of the last communities (if not the last!) not to charge any user fee or bag fees for residents to dispose of household waste, recycling, and many other items. However, large loads, construction debris, appliances, mattresses, etc., will be charged a fee. Please see our Transfer Station Guide.

While you're there - visit our Swap Shop. We encourage passing on your usable items. Items should be in working order and clean. Please see our Swap Shop Guide.

You will find links here to valuable information — and remember: if you don’t know, just ask!

NOTE: As of November 2022, the Massachusetts DEP has banned all textiles from being disposed of as solid waste. For more information about the new donation drop box, see the Textiles Disposal page.

TIRES are no longer accepted at the Transfer Station. Tire distributors generally accept old tires for disposal for a fee.

MATTRESSES: We can accept them but the fee will be $ 125 a piece. You can bring them to Casella at the Lenox Valley Transfer Station in Lenox Dale to be recycled for a $ 55 fee.
