Accountant

The Town Accountant is responsible for overseeing the Town’s financial records. She maintains a complete set of books for all Town accounts, appropriations, and expenditures, maintaining a General Ledger and subsidiary ledgers as necessary for the proper recording of all transactions in accordance with UMAS (Uniform Municipal Accounting System) and ensuring compliance with M.G.L. Chapters 41 and 44.

The Accountant prepares the payment warrants, verifying that all expenditures are lawful and that funding exists in the relevant account. Warrants are then approved by the Select Board and payments made by the Treasurer. The Accountant works with the Treasurer to reconcile all accounts against the Treasurer’s records and bank statements on a regular and timely basis, and provides regular reports on the status of accounts to the Finance Committee and Select Board.

The Accountant plays a key role in completing the DOR Tax Rate Recap used for setting the annual tax rate. She also prepares and files all end-of-year reports necessary for fulfilling MA DOR requirements, including Schedule A, Balance Sheet, and documentation necessary for the certification of Free Cash.
