Town Meetings
Washington practices the Town Meeting style of government, which still closely resembles the self-governing vision of our country’s Founding Fathers.
The Town Meeting is more than a gathering; it is the legislative body and appropriating authority of the Town. Every resident registered to vote is a member of Town Meeting. The appropriations of the annual budget, authorizations for borrowing, changes to bylaws, and other such matters must all be approved by Town Meeting.
The Annual Town Meeting is held in May on the Wednesday ten days before the Annual Town Election (which usually, but not always, works out to be the second Wednesday). Special Town Meetings are held as needed and called for by the Select Board.

2026 Annual Town Meeting
The 2026 Annual Town Meeting to set the operating budget for FY 2027 and decide on other town business was held on Wednesday, May 6, 2026 at 7:00 PM at the Washington Town Hall, 8 Summit Hill Rd. The warrant and results are posted below.
