Conservation Commission

The Washington Conservation Commission is dedicated to helping our residents navigate the process of permitting for projects. If there is a question as to whether or not your project needs to be permitted or signed off on, please reach out to us.

We are bound by the Wetlands Protection Act (M.G.L. Ch. 131, Sect. 40), which protects wetlands and the public interests they serve, including flood control, prevention of pollution and storm damage, and protection of public and private water supplies, groundwater supply, fisheries, land containing shellfish, and wildlife habitat. These public interests are protected by requiring a careful review of proposed work that may alter wetlands.

Please read the WPA Overview for more information on the process.

The Conservation Commission is a volunteer board of three to seven members appointed by the Select Board.

You can email the Conservation Commission at [email protected].
