Community

In Washington, we pride ourselves on still being a small rural community where people look out for their neighbors. We still vote by paper ballots and cast them in an old hand-cranked ballot box.

We’re a largely residential community and there’s no real downtown or business district (although there are plenty of home-based businesses!). You’re most likely to run into friends and neighbors at the Transfer Station, Town Park, or maybe Town Hall on a Monday night.

We’re too small to warrant our own zipcode, instead sharing a post office with neighboring Becket, with whom we also share a school and library among other services and amenities, while steadfastly maintaining our own identity.

The Washington Community is what we all choose to make of it. In a town with fewer than 500 residents, every single person can really make a difference. So we encourage residents to get involved and contribute in the areas that interest you.
