Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program Now Open for Applications
The Massachusetts Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program is now accepting applications for eligible seniors in Washington. This free, federally funded program gives low-income seniors coupons to purchase fresh, locally grown fruits, vegetables, fresh-cut herbs, and honey directly from farmers at participating farmers' markets and farm stands.
Who Qualifies
You are eligible if you are at least 60 years old and your household income is at or below 185 percent of the federal poverty guidelines. If you receive SNAP benefits or other assistance programs, you may automatically qualify.
How Much You Receive
In 2025, eligible participants receive coupons worth $25 per year to spend on fresh produce from authorized local farmers.
How to Apply
Residents of Washington should contact Elder Services of Berkshire County to apply:
Phone: (413) 499-0524 or (800) 981-5201
Applications are available each June and coupons can typically be used through October. Ask about the income guidelines when you call.
Where to Use Your Coupons
Your coupons are accepted at over 300 certified farmers' markets and farm stands throughout Massachusetts. Nearby options in Berkshire County include markets in Pittsfield, Great Barrington, Lee, Sheffield, and Stockbridge.
Additional Savings
If you receive SNAP benefits, you may also be eligible for the Berkshire Agricultural Ventures Market Match program, which provides dollar-for-dollar matching on produce purchases at 10 regional farmers' markets.
