Vote by Mail

On June 22, 2022, a Massachusetts election reform law titled 'The VOTES Act' was signed into law.  Included in this law is a provision to make voting-by-mail a permanent part of all state elections, state primaries, presidential primaries, and local elections in Massachusetts.

How do you vote by mail?

  • For state elections, state primaries, and presidential primaries, the State will send a vote-by-mail application to every registered voter at least 45 days before each election.  You can complete this application and mail or leave it in the drop box at the Town Hall for the Town Clerk.
  • For local elections, the Town Clerk will include a vote-by-mail application with the annual census mailing and will also have applications available at the Town Hall.  Mail or leave it in the drop box at the Town Hall for the Town Clerk.
  • Download, print and complete the vote-by-mail application.  Mail or leave it in the drop box at the Town Hall for the Town Clerk.
  • Any other form of written communication requesting a ballot is also acceptable, as long as it signed by the voter.

Vote-by-mail deadlines

  • Vote-by-mail applications must be received by the Town Clerk no later than 5 business days prior to the election.
  • For the Special Town Election being held on Saturday, October 21, 2023, the deadline is Monday, October 16, 2023 for the Town Clerk to receive a request for a vote-by-mail ballot.
